Chinese Culture University Implementation Guidelines Governing Grants to Faculty Members for Guiding Students Working on Research or Creative Projects(2015.6.3)

1.Purpose of Grant
The present Implementation Guidelines are prescribed by the Chinese Culture University (“the University”) to increase the research capacity of its faculty and students, to incentivize faculty members to provide students with guidance in learning activities such as research, creation, competitions, and exhibitions, and to improve the effectiveness of the University in applying for “College Student Research Projects” of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

2. Scope of Grant

(1) Engagement in academic research projects and provision of guidance to undergraduate students for participation in such projects.

(2) Coordinating and guiding students (including undergraduate and graduate students) to engage in activities involving arts, literature, creations, designs, exhibitions or sports competitions; eligibility for this purpose is limited to relevant activities that have a review or evaluation system.

(3) Promotion of gender equality education, or, engagement in research projects related to gender equality.

3.Criterion for Application
Full-time faculty members of the University.

4. Requirements for Projects
The content and format of a project proposal composed by a faculty applicant shall be in accordance with the format of the thematic research project application set forth by the Ministry of Science and Technology; also, the principal investigator of such project shall, in principle, coach students in applying for “College Student Research Projects” of the Ministry of Science and Technology during that academic year.

5. Application and Review Schedule

(1) Any full-time faculty member may, within a timeframe stipulated by the Office of Research and Development, submit a proposal to the pertinent department (graduate institute) office for preliminary review by the pertinent college or the School of Continuing Education; application proposals for research projects pertaining to gender equality shall be subject to preliminary review by the Gender Equality Education Committee.

(2) Application proposals approved by the pertinent college, School of Continuing Education or Gender Equality Education Committee in their preliminary review shall be submitted to the Office of Research and Development for compilation and submission to the Academic Review Committee, which shall reexamine the proposals and approve a list of grant recipients and the respective amount of grant awarded to each.

6. Grant Case Count and Amount

If the total number of applications of the entire University exceeds the annual budget of that year, the colleges and the School of Continuing Education shall adjust the number of applications filed by their subsidiary departments, with a cap of no more than one-third (1/3) of their full-time faculty members in principle. The grant for each project shall be 30,000 NTD, which comprises instruction fee for the research project principal investigator and research grant for the student respectively at 15,000 NTD.

7. Execution Timeline and Result Report

(1) Implementation Timeline: six months from the date of approval.

(2) Any faculty member who engages in an academic research project and provides guidance to undergraduate students for participation in such project shall, within three months after the completion of the project, submit to the Office of Research and Development supporting information indicating that guidance was provided to students in applying for “College Student Research Projects” of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and, within one year after the completion of the project, provide to the Office of Research and Development proof of paper submission and relevant supporting information.

(3) Any faculty member who coordinates and guides students (including undergraduate and graduate students) in participating in activities having a review or evaluation system and involving arts, literature, creations, designs, exhibitions or sports competitions shall, within three months after the completion of the project, submit to the Office of Research and Development supporting information of participation by the students in such activities having the review or evaluation system, and, within one year after the completion of the project, submit to the Office of Research and Development supporting information pertaining to any exhibition activity held at a public venue by the faculty member or to participation thereof in national or international creation, competition or exhibition.

(4) Any faculty member who promotes gender equality education or engages in a research project related to gender equality may, within three month after the completion of the project, submit a report on the results to the Office of Research and Development and the Gender Equality Education Committee, and, within one year after the completion of the project, shall provide to the Office of Research and Development proof of paper submission by the faculty member and supporting information.

(5) Any faculty member who receives a grant per the present Guidelines but fails to submit a report on the research results as prescribed herein, to coach students in applying for “College Student Research Projects” of the Ministry of Science and Technology,” and to provide proof of paper submission or proof of participation in a relevant activity having a review or evaluation system shall be barred for two years from applying for any grant for research projects of the University.

8. The present Implementation Guidelines and any amendment thereto shall be promulgated and implemented upon being approved by the Academic Review Committee and the Administrative Council.
